Timeline

April 30, 2013 Scott Hazelton defeats Bob Jefferies for his seat on the Board of Selectmen. This is a great win for law abiding citizens!

February 26, 2013 Kelly Ross, Chair of the Board of Selectmen removes Goal 8 which would have required the Selectmen to pursue the removal of firearms from Westford.

February 20, 2013 Over 550 people show up along with the media to the rescheduled meeting. Westford Pro 2A is first on the schedule to do a presentation to dispel myths with the media present. We are removed from the schedule without notice and Jefferies immediately withdraws Article 30. The Board passes the removal unanimously. The warrant stays closed, preventing Denali Delmar's Citizen's petition to be added. Her petition is an exact duplicate of Article 30.

February 12, 2013 over 150 people show up to the Board of Selectmen meeting. We exceed the fire capacity and are asked to leave knowing that this will be rescheduled.

January 2013 People show up to ask for Article 30s removal. Jefferies is not in attendance at the Board of Selectmen Meeting but Andrea wants to keep the Article on the warrant 'out of respect for Jefferies' and as the deciding vote, decides to keep the Article on the Warrant.

December 2012 Jefferies adds Article 30 to ban most firearms in town

What are our 2A Rights?

FACT: U.S. Supreme Court’s decisions in District of Columbia vs. Heller and McDonald vs. City of Chicago affirmed that individuals have an enforceable right to possess firearms – including handguns – for self defense and that right is protected against infringement by states and municipalities, as well as the federal government. (Peterson D, Appellate Courts Weigh-In on Right to Carry, JURIST-Sidebar, January 2013).

Costs to Westford

If this is passed, Westford opens itself to lawsuits for civil rights infringements. Kopelman and Page letter to BoS

How much will our taxes be raised if this is similar to other lawsuits over Second Amendment Infringement by a town?

FACT: It is estimated that the cost to the City of Chicago will exceed $3 million dollars in legal fees and awards to the plaintiff.
